“Archaeology – New challenges for Andean archaeology in Italian-Peruvian cooperation: multidisciplinary research and integrated technology”
From 13 to 16 December 2022, in conjunction with the National Space Day (16 December), a conference of great scientific value and primary importance for Italian archaeology in Peru and, more generally, for cultural diplomacy of Italy in Peru will take place. The title of the conference is “Archaeology – New challenges for Andean archaeology in Italian-Peruvian cooperation: multidisciplinary research and integrated technology”.
On this occasion, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, together with the Italian Cultural Institutes, will not just celebrate the launch of San Marco 1 (1964), the Italian satellite that managed to escape from the Earth’s atmosphere.
In fact, the Italian Institute of Lima is also organizing a four-day conference, in which the latest advances in space technology applied to archaeological heritage will be presented, in terms of supervision and risk prevention. Overall, 26 speakers – including professors, specialists and experts in Andean archaeology, coming from Peru, Italy, the United States, Poland and Japan – will discuss different aspects related to the Peruvian archaeological heritage. Among these, conservation and risk factors, the advantages of a multidisciplinary vision and the communication of archaeological heritage to the public through effective mediation in museums and documentary stand out.
In particular, during the four days, five speakers from Italy will illustrate the results of the Missions directed by them and will discuss of space and general technologies applied to the archaeological heritage.
In Peru, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation recognizes and supports, through the DGDP – Office VI, four archaeological Missions for the year 2022. These will be the protagonists of the conference that will be held in virtual format.
