The international film festival Kino Otok – Isola Cinema is a summer festival of art-house films. The programme of Slovenian first-run titles, selected with rigor and attention to quality, takes place mainly in Izola, Istria; at the same time, in various other Slovenian locations, further ‘satellite’ stages are planned, with a proposal for films still seen in the country. The screenings are accompanied by a series of meetings and debates between invited authors and visitors.

As part of the 2021 edition, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Ljubljana, the opening night (Wednesday 25 August) sees the presentation of ‘Assandira’ (2020) by Salvatore Mereu, in the presence of the director . Salvatore Mereu made his directorial debut in 2003 with ‘Ballo a tre passi’, which was followed by ‘Sonetàula’ (2008), ‘Tajabone’ (2010) and ‘Bellas mariposas’ (2012).
