The Italian Cultural Institute of Dakar and the Blaise Senghor Cultural Centre of Dakar present ’If there is no sun’, the research and production project by choreographer Irene Russolillo, video artist Luca Brinchi and Italian-Liberian musician Karima 2G.

The event is promoted by Danza Urbana and Fabbrica Europa as part of ‘CRISOL – creative processes’, funded by the Boarding Pass Plus programme of the Italian Ministry of Culture to encourage opportunities for meeting and co-creation  between Italian and foreign artists.

The research project ‘If there is no sun’ involves Senegalese dancers Antoine Danfa and Mapathe Sakho and Tunisian performer Ilyes Triki.

After an initial phase of online meetings, development of the project commenced in 2021 with artistic residences in Tunisia, Senegal and Italy with the aim of creating a new production that will debut in Italy in June 2022.

The work, which began with an investigation of the concept of community and its declinations in different contexts, has evolved into a creative project focusing on the interaction between body and landscape.

The 2022 event in Dakar will end with a public presentation on 19 April at the Blaise Senghor Cultural Centre, a partner of the Italian Cultural Institute of Dakar for this production phase in the Senegalese capital.
