The Italian Cultural Institute of Cologne, in collaboration with the MIC – Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual, and the tanzhaus nrw, presents the show Some Choreographies by Jacopo Jenna, which will be staged at the Tanzhaus in Düsseldorf on 6 and 7 October.
Some Choreographies is a dialogue between the dancer Ramona Caia and projected videos of different dance styles and movement sequences. The choreography unfolds as a mimetic process, in which Ramona Caia’s movements meet a multitude of elements taken from the history of dance and performance as told by the cinema and the Internet. The work is a sensitive kinetic exploration inspired by the vast collection of recorded performances gathered by choreographer and director Jacopo Jenna. The footage ranges from historical to contemporary dance, from entertainment content to cultural and spiritual rituals, from competition to amateur videos. Ramona Caia embodies, transforms, connects and reshapes the bodies portrayed in the videos, capturing their dynamism and reflecting their artistic freedom and spontaneity.
In the second part, an original video by artist Roberto Fassone shows a sequence of visual choreographies, a symbolic scenario without any human traces. Looking to create a relationship with the body performing on stage, it prompts us to reflect on the intangible matter of which dance is made.
