On the occasion of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, dedicated this year to the theme “Italian and Youth’, the Italian Cultural Institute of Washington invites on 21 October to a conference held by the Italian sociolinguist Vera Gheno.
The guest speaker will describe the current dynamics at work in contemporary Italian, particularly among young people, analysing both the topics being discussed and the tones which are used.
Vera Gheno, sociolinguist, collaborated with the Accademia della Crusca for 20 years. She taught on contract at the University of Florence for 18 years; since September 2021 she has been a researcher at the same institution. In 2022, she published ‘Chiamami così. Normalità, diversità e tutte le parole nel mezzo’ (‘Call Me Like This. Normality, diversity and all the words in between’), her eleventh monograph.
