The Italian Cultural Institute of Sao Paolo, in collaboration with the Istituto per la Storia del Risorgimento Italiano, has scheduled a series of meetings entitled ‘Anita Garibaldi e il suo tempo’ (Anita Garibaldi and her time).
The programme kicks off on 10 June with a conference by Carmine Pinto on ‘Rivoluzione e contro-rivoluzione tra Atlantico e Mediterraneo’ (Revolution and counter-revolution between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean).
On June 17, Alessandro Bonvini will talk about the role of Italian patriots in the Farrapos revolution and how the Garibaldi epic began in the plains and lagoons of southern Brazil.
The series will conclude on June 24 with Silvia Cavicchioli who will recount the life of Anita Garibaldi, a female icon from the Risorgimento to contemporary times, beginning with her meeting with Giuseppe Garibaldi in South America.
The event is free of charge and in Italian. Booking is required and the number of places is limited.
