The Italian Cultural Institute of Budapest presents the photography exhibition ‘Oltre Tevere’ (Beyond the Tiber) by Claudia Gori from 5 to 26 April.

The exhibition will open on 5 April in the presence of the photographer, the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Budapest, Gabriele La Posta, and Szilvia Mucsy, Director of the Budapest Photo Festival, which this exhibition forms a part of.

‘In September 2020, after the restrictions of the first lockdown, I had the opportunity to walk for nine days from the source of the Tiber River to Perugia. I walked 150 km, observing and documenting the “eternal river” that spreads out and cuts through different landscapes every day: forests, tobacco fields, villages and artificial lakes. I also had some incredible encounters along the way. A falconer who looked like Karl Marx with Moghrian, his snowy owl; Sebastian, a young adult who had the keys to the little chapel in his village and knew our route by heart; Sabrina, an innkeeper who looked like a kindly witch; a huge pig, several species of birds and many welcoming villagers. During this journey I began to slow down somewhat in the act of walking but never returned to where I began, choosing just carrying on instead. This is what impressed me the most. Moving forward. The journey could not have possibly given us a better piece advice for our lives. The images are part of the Oltre Tevere project, a platform dedicated to the enhancement and photographic documentation of the Tiber river (oltretevere.it) documented by five professional photographers in September 2020: Pietro Vertamy, Claudia Gori, Ilaria Di Biagio, Marzo Zorzanello, Giuseppe Chiantera, Claudia Borgia. The project, conceived by Sarah Carlet (PhotoTales), was supported by Kristin Jones (Eternal Tiber) with the collaboration of Around The Walk and Ammappalitalia
