The Italian Cultural Institute in Oslo promotes the Norwegian conference ‘E la terra fu deserta e vuota’ (And the land was deserted and empty) on the writer Primo Levi (1919–1987) and his experience in the concentration camp in Auschwitz; about modern times and what has become the symbol of evil. The conference looks at Levi’s autobiographical works, which made him one of the most important writers of post-World War II Italian literature.
The conference is led by Unn Falkeid, a professor at Oslo University, who has published a long series of articles and books on the literature, culture and history of Italian ideas.
