On the occasion of the 17th edition of Contemporary Art Day, the Italian Cultural Institute of Barcelona presents Francesco Arena’s ‘Anello’ (Ring), the first piece of contemporary art to become part of the artistic assets of the Colosseum Archaeological Park and created thanks to the contribution of the Italian Council, a programme for the international promotion of Italian art from the Ministry of Culture’s General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity.
It is a sculpture which was especially conceived by the artist to be placed in the Vigna Barberini, fitting in perfectly with the surrounding environment and the ancient remains. The dialogue between archaeology and contemporary art is highly suggestive, giving rise to new ways of reflecting on memory and time.
The work is the result of the artist’s residency and the related creative project that Francesco Arena carried out at the Italian Cultural Institute of Barcelona and will be presented by means of a video specifically made by Domenico Palma.
