To mark the occasion of Contemporary Art Day 2021, promoted by AMACI – Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums, the Italian Cultural Institute of São Paulo and the Museum of Contemporary Art of São Paulo will be streaming a film from the ‘Romanistan’ project.
It tells the story of the journey made by Luca Vitone to trace the path of Roma and Sinti peoples from north-western India to Italy backwards, from Bologna to Chandigarh. On the trail of a migration that took place between the eighth and fourteenth centuries, the artist undertakes an epic and spectacular journey in which personal memories are connected to history.
‘Romanistan’ is an elaborate project presented by the Luigi Pecci Centre for Contemporary Art in Prato, winner of the fourth edition of the Italian Council (2018), a competition from the Ministry of Culture aimed at promoting Italian contemporary art around the world. In addition to the film, the ‘Romanistan’ project also includes various publications and exhibition proposals.
