The Italian touring exhibition, ‘Created in Italy – An Aptitude for the Impossible‘, will make its first overseas appearance at the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, on 17 December 2021.

The exhibition, which focuses on the landscape of Italian industry, features some of the most outstanding examples of new Italian industrial design and technological innovation. It was conceived by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Directorate General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation) and curated by Compasso d’Oro winners Odo Fioravanti, Giulio Iacchetti and Francesca Picchi.

The examples showcased in the exhibit will offer a vivid sense of Italian ingenuity, featuring a variety of individuals and ideas that illustrate the quality and creativity of Italy’s multifaceted innovative industrial production.

Among the common features of the pieces on display are a meticulous search for perfection, a renewed inventive spirit and a constant urge to experiment and push the limits of materials. Some of the objects exhibited show a ‘pureresearch, aimed at creating pleasing objectsmade to perfection‘, which can also improve the life and the aesthetic experience of the user, responding to new technological challenges and to the increasing demand for ‘tailor-made’ products.

The heterogeneity of Italy’s industry reflects the diversity of a natural landscape astonishingly unique in its wealth of differences. It is this multiplicity of objects and developments that surrounds Italy’s heritage of state-of-the-art craftsmanship, with a legacy that persists and evolves within the industrial context.

Accompanied by in-depth scrutiny, interviews and a website, the exhibit aims to expand this first collection of stories and to make the contents and cases displayed more accessible in the exploration of a naturally manifold, everchanging reality.

The San Francisco exhibit was made possible through the collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco (Director Annamaria Di Giorgio) and the Consulate General of Italy (Consul Sergio Strozzi). Exhibition set up by architect Simone Mazzetto.
