To celebrate Dantedì, on 25 March the Consulate, Casa Fiat de Cultura and the Italian school ‘Fondazione Torino’ will hold the conference ‘Dall’inferno al paradiso: una conversazione sulla Divina Commedia’ (From Inferno to Paradise: a conversation on the Divine Comedy), with professor of Literature and History Riccardo Cassoli. To join the digital event, which will be held from 7:00pm to 8:00pm Brazil time (GMT-3), simply register on www.sympla.com.br.
During the virtual conference, Professor Cassoli will outline the structure, symbolism and allegories found in the Divine Comedy, still relevant after 700 years, and will call on the Brazilian public to ‘enter the adventure with Dante’.
The second event in Dante’s honour, organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Literature of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), is the ‘Jornada Dante 700 años’ which will be held on 25 March starting at 9:00am in Brazil (GMT- 3). The programme includes interviews, lectures and readings of the work of Dante by researchers, students and professors of the Faculty of Literature. The content will be available on the YouTube channel of the Faculty’s Italian course where they will remain accessible in the future, in order to promote the the works of Dante – poet, politician, linguist and philosopher – to an audience beyond the academic sphere.
The event was inspired by the mural dedicated to Dante’s Divine Comedy and painted, at the request of the Consulate, in the atrium of the Faculty of Literature at UFMG by the Italian artist Piero Bagnariol as part of the XX Week of the Italian Language in the World.
