To mark the the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel Prize winner Grazia Deledda, the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris is hosting a virtual performance of the theatrical show ‘La Via del Male’ by the García Lorca Theatre Company . The project is supported by the Fondazione di Sardegna and will take place in 2021 through eight geographical, real and virtual stages.
The Company based the performance on the novel of the same name, published for the first time in Italy in 1896, and created the project ‘Deledda in cammino‘ (Deledda on the way) with the aim of raising the profile of the Sardinian-Italian writer. The theatrical adaptation offers a condensed version of the novel while retaining the characteristics of the writer’s language, the idioms and the linguistic constructions that seem to be translated from Sardinian and which for this reason are all the more original and extremely effective and concrete. The dialogue parts confirm how Deledda’s novels are well suited to the theatre.
The show, directed and performed by Patrizia Viglino and accompanied on the piano by Antonella Chironi, is available free of charge (in Italian, without subtitles) on the Institute’s channels for three days starting from 26 July.
