Entitled ‘Drop by Drop, Life Falls from the Sky: Water, Islam and Art‘, the temporary exhibition hosted at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, which has over 120 works of art on display, created under the patronage of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah, on the basis of strong bilateral ties between the United Arab Emirates and Italy.

Scheduled to run from 9 June to 11 December the exhibition explores the intricate relationship and between Islam and water, in the first-ever collaboration between the cities of Sharjah and Turin. In Islamic societies, the element of water has always played a crucial role not only on a practical level but also in the religious, spiritual and artistic spheres.

The Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) has collaborated with the Fondazione Torino Musei in order to present an exhibition that seeks to emphasize the shared heritage linking Italy to the Arabo-Islamic world. The exhibition is divided into four sections: the blessings of water and Islam, water and daily life, hammams and traditional gardens. Together, these illustrate the historical development of the many roles played by water in daily life, and represent the artistic embodiment of this element in the forms and the scope of Arab and Islamic arts and artefacts.
