The Italian Cultural Institute of Kiev, alongside the Embassy of Italy, the Embassy of Ukraine in Italy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Social Policy in Ukraine, presents the exhibition ‘Visions of the Divine Comedy in Kiev‘, which opened on 15 February at the Modern Art Research Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and runs until 1 March. The exhibition is organized by the association ‘VITAUKR‘, in collaboration with the ‘Uniti per Unire‘ (‘United to Unite’) movement.
“Visions” features 330 works by Italian and Ukrainian artists to create an illustrated edition of Dante’s greatest work, with commentary by art critic Giorgio Grasso.
According to the curators, the exhibition opens up unexpected interpretations of the ‘Divine Comedy‘ and encourages us to look at Dante’s text from a different angle. In particular, the works help us imagine Dante in Kiev (where he already stands in the form of a sculpture and will soon be depicted in a mural) and start up a dialogue between the political aspects of the poem and those of the Ukrainian geopolitical context.
