Jazzhead!

Jazzahead! is the must-go event for the international jazz industry and the place for high-quality, contemporary jazz from Europe and overseas. In 2021, the festival features three of the most promising Italian jazz musicians of the younger generation. Italian double bass player Michelangelo Scandroglio is surely one of Italy’s young rising stars. In 2020, he released ‘In The Eyes of the Whale’ with Auand Records, his debut album as a leader; multi-jazz award winner Fabio Giachino (who played at EJBF live in 2019 with his trio) creates fresh, intelligent, and enthralling new takes on the modern jazz piano tradition and Ferdinando Romano is a double bass player, composer and improviser who was awarded Best Italian Rising Star in the Top Jazz 2020 (Musica Jazz’s annual Critics Poll).

Futura‘ is the project created to support the promotion of Italian music abroad, as a result of the collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Italia Music Lab foundation. It consists of a music video archive that includes performances by Italian artists who over the past two years have played during the digital editions of many showcase festivals around the world.

Futura | JazzAhead! | Fabio Giachino

Multi-jazz award winner Fabio Giachino is an eclectic artist who expresses himself through jazz and improvised music borders as a pianist, but is also active in electronic music (live and as a studio producer) and as a classical organist. In 2021, Giachino published a new exciting chapter of his inspiring work: "Limitless" is an oneiric solo piano dimension where melodies and rhythms are intertwined, evolving in a dialogue without a solution of continuity.

Futura | JazzAhead! | Ferdinando Romano

Ferdinando Romano is a double bass player, composer and improviser. He has been awarded Best Italian Rising Star in the Top Jazz 2020 (Musica Jazz”s annual Critics Poll) and his album “Totem” is in the top ten “Best Italian Albums” in the same award. “Totem”, his first album as a leader, was released on April 24 2020 by Losen Records. The album”s line-up includes some of the best new talents and improvisers of the Italian new generation of jazz players as well as the great trumpeter Ralph Alessi, one of ECM”s leading musicians.

Futura | Jazzahead! | Michelangelo Scandroglio Group

Italian double bass player Michelangelo Scandroglio is surely one of Italy’s young rising stars. In 2020, he released “In The Eyes of the Whale” with Auand Records, his debut album as a leader. Inspired by contemporary jazz, the recording features a lineup of international rising stars. Penned by Scandroglio, all seven originals combine layered melodies, intersecting and merging into each other – thus bringing an ever-changing discourse to the listener.
