Since 2005, the international community has officially chosen 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz by the Red Army in 1945, as the date to commemorate all victims of the Holocaust.
This year, the Embassy of Italy in Israel and the Italian Cultural Institute of Tel Aviv are honouring Holocaust Memorial Day with a ceremony to rekindle the eternal flame at Yad Vashem, the National Holocaust Remembrance Institution, along with a lecture by the Director of the International Institute for Holocaust Research at Yad Vashem, Dr. Iael Nidam-Orvieto.
