On 19 October, the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris presents a literary meeting dedicated to the figure of Beppe Fenoglio, on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
Beppe Fenoglio (1922-1962) is the author of some of the most important Italian novels of the second half of the 20th century: ‘Una questione privata‘ and ‘Il partigiano Johnny’. On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, Cahiers de l’Hôtel de Galliffet pays tribute to him by publishing a collection of his short stories, hitherto unknown to the French public: L’herbe brille encore et autres nouvelles (tr. Frédéric Sicamois, preface by Luca Bufano). The reader will find in it the main themes of Fenoglio’s work (the Resistance against the Nazis, life in the hills of the Langhe), but also unexpected and surprising openings towards the fantastic.
The meeting will be attended by Luca Bufano (Florida University, Florence), Alessandro Martini (University of Lyon III), Margherita Fenoglio (President of the Committee promoting the celebrations of the centenary of Beppe Fenoglio’s birth), Jean-Baptiste Para (Europe magazine) and Frédéric Sicamois (translator). The debate will be moderated by Paolo Grossi (Cahiers de l’Hôtel de Galliffet).
