The Italian Cultural Institute of Tunis presents the double Tunisian leg of the summer tour of flautist Andrea Griminelli and his Octa Jazz Quartet with two exclusive concerts, on 16 July at the International Symphonic Music Festival of El Jem, and on the 17th at the International Festival of Hammamet.
The Roman amphitheatre of El Jem, (known as the Little Coliseum), declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, will provide a splendid backdrop for the Maestro’s magical atmospheres, accompanied by the Octa Jazz Quartet, with a programme dedicated to Ennio Morricone’s splendid melodies, unforgettable musical themes from the most famous Italian cinema.
Also dedicated to Italian cinema, and to the best-known pieces by Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone, will be the concert in Hammamet, which will take place in the amphitheatre of the International Cultural Centre, Dar Sebastian.
Griminelli, born in Correggio, in the same town that gave birth to Luciano Ligabue, is one of the world’s most appreciated artists. A flutist of classical extraction, he began studying music at a very young age and to a traditional career in classical music has flanked frequent forays into the world of pop music, establishing a stable professional relationship. Esteemed by the greatest international musicians, he has done collaborations with the likes of Pavarotti, Bocelli, Zucchero, Sting, Elton John, James Taylor, Bradford Marsalis and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, with whom he has performed in the most prestigious theatres around the world, the United States, London, Paris and Moscow, and South America.
His most successful productions include ‘Andrea Griminelli’s Cinema Italiano: A New Interpretation of Italian Film Music’, an album in which he presented music by Morricone and Bacalov, reinterpreting them with the contribution of international stars such as Sting, Pavarotti and Dalla.
Great talent, surprising technique and particular sensitivity in interpretation have made Andrea Griminelli an internationally renowned artist, earning him awards such as the Grammy and the Prix De Paris.
In 1991 he was awarded the honour of Cavaliere and in 2003 the title of Ufficiale al merito della Repubblica Italiana.
