After a two-year postponement due to the Covid-19 health crisis, the museum Rahmi M. Koç of Istanbul is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition dedicated to the paintings of the Italian artist Lorenzo Mariotti, a ‘meritorious painter’ of the Navy.

Thirty oil paintings on wood panel created with the Roman artist and engineer’s distinctive, refined technique will be exhibited from June 8th to September 11th at the historic museum which was founded by the industrialist Rahmi M. Koç in the district of Hasköy, along the banks of the Golden Horn.

The event is sponsored by the Italian Navy and the Italian Cultural Institute of Istanbul and has been made possible thanks to the contributions of Tofaş, Organik Holding and Sacmi.

Lorenzo Mariotti‘s paintings favour subjects linked to the history of the Italian Regia Marina (the navy of the Kingdom of Italy) and the Italian Navy.

Mariotti is nevertheless an eclectic painter and his work includes architectural and human subjects as protagonists, but also succulent plants  and the projects he worked on as a civil engineer. The artist created several exhibitions and donated a painting of a Royal Navy launch, which was built in 1927 and admirably restored, to the Rahmi M. Koç museum in Istanbul  which is now part of the museum’s collection of boats.
