On 8 and 9 August, the Italian Cultural Institute of Pretoria presents a double concert, in Pretoria and Durban, by award-winning pianist Nazareno Ferruggio.
He made his debut as soloist with the Bari Symphony Orchestra, performing Beethoven’s Fantasia for choir and orchestra, conducted by Nicola Scardicchio. He has won eighteen first prizes in national and international competitions. In 2005, he won the prestigious Ibla Grand Prize at the Ibla International Piano Competition for Debussy pieces.
In 2006, he made his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York and also performed in concerts in Little Rock (Arkansas), USA. In 2007, he received the Liszt Special Prize at the 8th Grieg International Piano Competition in Oslo. In 2008 he won a prize and a Rotary Scholarship at the Pianale Academy in Fulda (Germany). In 2009, he won first prize at the International Piano Competition ‘Valentino Prize’.
In 2007, he toured extensively in Indonesia, where he also gave Masterclasses. He performed in recitals in Jakarta and Surabaya. In 2008, he made his debut at the Wiener Saal in Salzburg.
After winning prizes at the ‘Ibla Grand Prize’ and the ‘Grieg International Piano Competition’ in Oslo, he began a career that brought him invitations to perform in some of the world’s most important concert halls.
He has given concerts and recitals in New York, London, Singapore, Yangon, Budapest, Mexico City, Sydney, Melbourne, Jakarta, Oslo, Munich, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Valletta, Milan, Lima, Barcelona, Innsbruck, Venice, Hong Kong , Rome, Cheong Ju, Hamamatsu, Little Rock, Cologne, Geneva, Amsterdam, Guatemala, Mannheim, Bern and Bari.
