The Italian Cultural Institute of Amsterdam, on the occasion of the exhibition ‘Italian Excellence. The new generation of Italian illustrators for children’, proposes on 18 May the creative workshop entitled ‘Un ascensore tutto mio’ (An elevator of my own) curated by Chiara Ficarelli, whose works are on display in the exhibition.
The workshop is inspired by the book ’Un giorno, un ascensore’ (One day, one lift) (Pulce edizioni, 2020): the children will create together a cardboard lift that will move with a simple paper converting mechanism.
Chiara Ficarelli graduated in Primary Education Science: while working as a teacher in nursery school, she cultivated her great passion for illustration and books by enrolling in the courses of ‘Ars in Fabula’ in Macerata. In 2019 she illustrated her first album for Orecchio Acerbo, ‘The poor people’ by Lev Tolstoj and for the same publishing house she also curated the illustrations of ‘One metre’, written by Sara Gomel. In 2020 she began working with Pulce Edizioni, for which she published ‘One day, one lift’, written by Cristina Petit, finalist for the ‘Born to Read’ National Award and winner of the Luigi Malerba Prize for the illustrated albums.
