The Italian Cultural Institute of Tel Aviv present from 26 May to 5 June at ‘DocAviv‘, the international documentary film festival, the only Israeli film festival entirely dedicated to documentary films.
Within the festival, the films compete for different categories of prizes : ‘Israeli’ and ‘international’, ‘Depth of Field’, ‘short film’ and ‘student film’.
The Festival also dedicates special sections in homage to the work of established directors , as well as themed programmes dedicated to music , art, social issues, virtual reality and new technologies.
Within ‘DocAviv‘ workshops and public meetings will be organised with prominent international directors and various professional events, including pitching between Israeli filmmakers and international producers .
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has named ‘Docaviv’ among the 28 major festivals whose winners automatically qualify for the Oscars. Starting with this year’s edition, the winners of the competitions in the ‘Israeli’, ‘international’ and ‘short film’ categories can be nominated for an Oscar in the ‘documentary’ category.
During the ten days of the festival, the Tel Aviv Film Library will be the focus of the event, but projections and public events will also take place in other places in the city such as the port of Tel Aviv, the HaPisga garden in Jaffa, the central Habima square and the two peripheral sections of the festival will also come alive: ‘ DocAviv Galilee’ , in Ma’alot Tarshiha and ‘ DocAviv Negev’ , in Yeruham .
This year the documentaries of three young emerging directors will represent Italy at the festival : ‘Atlantide’ by Yuri Ancarani , ‘Hide and Seek’ by Victoria Fiore and ‘Los Zuluagas‘ by Flavia Montini.
