The Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal present a concert by the Italian-Brazilian-Canadian quartet on 3 May Vaughan String Quartet.
Italy is associated with the art of Bel Canto, while Brazil suggests the idea of elaborate dances and hypnotic rhythms.
The evening’s programme, composed of Italian and Brazilian music, overturns this stereotype, suggesting the rhythm of Italian music and the sweetness of South American melodies .
The musicians interpret the light and evocative works of Nino Rota , the masterpieces of Beetholven Cunha in which the folk music of the north-eastern region of Brazil dissolves into multiple genres, between traditional and avant- garde , popular music and academia, and those of Davide Piero Runcini , inspired by the rhythms of southern Italy and the composer’s homage to all women , to their strength as a source of life.
The evening ends with the notes of Giuseppe Verdi , who translates the tradition of Italian melodrama into the elegant and intimate language of chamber music .
