On 6 and 7 May in Dresden, the Italian Cultural Institute of Berlin presents an international conference entitled La lingua italiana dal fiorentino all’internazionalizzazione (The Italian Language from Florentine to Internationalization).
The two-day event, organized by the Institut für Romanistik and the Italienzentrum at the TU Dresden, is intended for both an academic-scientific audience and a wider audience to discuss the development and importance of Florentine for contemporary Italian.
The debate will examine the question of whether Florentine is still the ideal Italian and why Dresden has historically been described as the “Florence on the Elbe” or the “Florence of the North.”
This is explained by the centuries-old tradition of Dresden’s close and interwoven links with Italian culture. And it is not just about its many monuments and works of art and the first German translation of the Divine Comedy produced there, but also the growing number of Italians who live there today.
Dresden and its Italianness therefore represent the ideal setting for an international conference that shines the spotlight on the Italian heritage found in the city.
