Design means planning. The digital age, the rising cost of raw materials, the evolution of craftsmanship, the advent of social media and the demands of a world that increasingly resembles the Internet have shaped a new image of the creative person, one that is increasingly evolving.
The profession of the designer now has a new set of terms: Product Design, Service Design, Interaction Design and the role of Makers according to the Olivetti’s concept. Digitization and new technologies have contributed to the growth of services and set the focus on user experience.
But what will be the designer’s role in the future?
Ivan Mielzarek – International Manager at Quasar Institute; Alessandro Gorla – Designer; Paolo Scoppola – Multimedia Artist; Salvatore Di Dio – Service Designer and Domenico Lucanto – Maker will discuss the issues in a dedicated event on 8 July at the Italian Cultural Institute of Brussels.
The meeting, which will be accessible via the Zoom platform, is organised on the occasion of Italian Design Day 2021. Coordinated by architect Ugo Brancato, the speakers will highlight how much and how the crisis represents an opportunity for the culture of design: the crisis and the role of Generation Z (Ivan Mielzarek, testimonial of IDD 2021), the pandemic crisis and design (Alessandro Gorla), the crisis in the relationship between man and technology (Paolo Scoppola), the crisis of urban livability (Salvatore Di Dio), the crisis of the territories (Domenico Lucanto).
