From 3 to 30 March, the Italian Cultural Institute of Bratislava presents a photography exhibition by Divo Cavicchioli and Angelo Novi.

The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Cinema Centre of Cesena and the Kino Lumière of Bratislava, will take visitors to the set of Mamma Roma, the famous film directed in 1962 by Pier Paolo Pasolini and starring Anna Magnani, which was presented in the same year at the 23rd Venice International Film Festival.

Mamma Roma is Pasolini’s second film and constitutes the centrepiece of his ‘Roman trilogy’ (including Accattone, Mamma Roma and Curd Cheese), which was born from Pasolini’s love for the most marginalized, from the care and attention with which he tried to provide a voice to the suburbs of a city and a country that were rapidly changing countenance. The Roman suburbs thus entered into Italian cinema, from Casal Bertone to Quadraro and the Parco degli Acquedotti.

The photos of the set, which were provided by the Cesena Cinema Centre, were taken by Divo Cavicchioli (1924 – 1996) and Angelo Novi (1930 – 1997), who collaborated with Pasolini behind the scenes of several films.

The exhibition is held on the occasion of the centenary of Pasolini’s birth and the 60th anniversary of the release of the film ‘Mamma Roma’, and accompanies the film festival which is being organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Bratislava at the Kino Lumière.
