On 13 August, the Italian Cultural Institute of Stockholm presents a concert by violinist Marco Fusi and composers Pierluigi Billone and Davide Gagliardi in the setting of the Kalv Festival.
The programme includes a performance of one of Luigi Nono’s last works, ‘La lontananza nostalgica utopica futura (Nostalgic Utopian Future Distance)’, which is perhaps his most poetic and complex work.
Composer Luigi Nono read what was to become his motto on a wall in the cloister of Toledo Cathedral:
wayfarer, there are no roads, only the journey!
In the latter part of his life, Nono’s music developed towards more open forms, sounds and spaces. ”’La lontananza nostalgica utopica futura” is perhaps the most astonishing example of this. The violinist wanders like a pilgrim in the acoustic space surrounded by loudspeakers. In the dialogue that is created between the violinist and that which ‘spreads’ the electronic sound, a special musical contact is created, which is different with each interpretation, since there is no single predetermined path.
