This year the theme of the Italian Language Week 2022 is ‘Italian and young people‘, which is why the Italian Cultural Institute of Bratislava has chosen, in the run-up to the week, to give space in the field of music to a young person, the Italian composer and pianist Mattia Vlad Morleo.

This event is also one of the first Italian concerts to be held in Slovakia this autumn, and follows Nicola Conte and Spiritual Galaxy’s concert at the City Sound Festival in Bratislava by a few days.

Morleo was born in 2000 in Apulia, in Fasano, and his music includes the music for the film ‘Santa Subito’ by Alessandro Piva (awarded at the Rome Film Festival in 2019 and presented in 2021 on Sky Arte and at the Chamber of Deputies). He is also the author of the soundtrack for the documentary ‘Drawing The Holocaust’, a work by director Massimo Vincenzi, which was aired on television in prime time on RAI Storia on the occasion of the 2022 Holocaust Memorial Day.

His dreamlike and refined notes have links with artists such as Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter, Philip Glass and Nils Frahm, from whom they are distinguished, however, by a very personal style.

His music is rarefied, melodic with nocturnal atmospheres, where emotions meet with the harmony of piano sounds and electronics.

With over 5 million listens on Spotify and over 10 million on all music platforms, the young composer made his debut on RAI when he was just 17, writing the soundtrack for the documentary “Fossoli – Anticamera per l’Inferno”, which also kicked off his partnership with director Massimo Vincenzi.

Between 2015 and 2016 came the first requests from RAI, Sky and Mediaset, especially for a series of documentaries, and the first works for cinema, along with concerts and recording activity. His compositions are also used as soundtracks for commercials.

He studied at the Conservatory of Music ‘Niccolò Piccinni’ in Bari.

Morleo alternates between composition and concert activity, which in 2022 will also take him to Slovakia for the first time.
