The twenty-four canvases by Chiara Montenero, on display from 1 to 30 October, at the Espace Art Sadika, in Gammarth, draw inspiration from the novel ‘Ouatann. Ombre sul mare’ (Ouatann. Shadows on the sea) by Tunisian Azza Filali.
The exhibition, curated by Irene Niosi and created in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Tunis, highlights the artistic career of Chiara Montenero, eclectic poet and writer, who turned to the visual arts with an original technique that immediately became her signature style.
Chiara Montenero captures phrases from the book, assembles them and places them in a space where they reign in order or in disorder, her marks are the impasto of the colour but also its stratification or its subtraction, the matter or the absence of it, in a unique and unrepeatable experience, a dialectical confrontation without conflict, where neither the supremacy of the word nor that of the canvas exists. This is an experience born in the context, or rather, in the spirit of multimedia art. – Irene Niosi.
