As part of the celebrations for the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri and the ‘Madrid Città/Ciudad Dantesca’ programme the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid, in collaboration with the Complutense University, the Autonomous University and the Carlos III University, inaugurates Spazio Dante, which hosts, starting from 16 March and every two weeks, a Dante reading club in Italian.
This club arose with the intention of creating a meeting point to encourage reading and conversation about Dante Alighieri and some of the Italian authors who, in their texts, have in various ways related to this giant of literature.
The meetings are held in the historic headquarters of the Palacio de Abrantes, in a room renamed Spazio Dante, where an exhibition of valuable Dante themed prints, sculptures and books belonging to the heritage of the Institute of Madrid has been set up. The prints feature works by some of the most successful artists of the twentieth century such as Corrado Cagli, Carlo Carrà, Carlo Levi, Carlo Guarienti and Aligi Sassu.
