As part of La Noche de los Libros (The Night of the Books) and on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the death of Antonio Tabucchi , on April 22, the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid organise a meeting with Carlos Gumpert, one of the Italian writer’s main translators and author of the book ‘ Conversations with Antonio Tabucchi ‘.
The meeting will be moderated by the director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid, Marialuisa Pappalardo.
Carlos Gumpert was a lecturer at the University of Pisa for several years. He has translated essays, art books, children’s and youth literature and graphic novels, but has specialised in contemporary Italian literature, with more than 130 translations for the most prestigious Spanish publishing houses by authors such as: Antonio Tabucchi, Giorgio Manganelli, Erri di Luca, Carlo Emilio Gadda, Andrea Camilleri, Ugo Riccarelli, Helena Janaczek, Goffredo Parise, Alessandro Baricco, Simonetta Agnello Hornby, Italo Calvino, Umberto Eco, Primo Levi, Dario Fo, Massimo Recalcati, etc. He also translates for the Spanish newspaper ‘El País’ and for the Spanish edition of the art magazine FMR (2004-2010). He regularly writes articles and reviews on Italian culture and is the author, among other books, of ‘Conversations with Antonio Tabucchi (1995)’.
