She is the author of the latest italian literary success and her novels have become veritable bestsellers, transforming the story of an Italian family between the 18th and 19th centuries into an unprecedented epic. We’re talking about Stefania Auci and the history of the Florio family: her first novel ‘The Florios of Sicily: a novel’ reached its 19th Italian edition in just a few months and has been translated into over 30 languages.

From Bagnare Calabra, following the devastating earthquake of 1799, the Florios emigrated to Sicily, where they built their empire decade after decade: dynasty of shipowners, entrepreneurs in wine, tuna fishing boats, but also creators of the Targa Florio, the oldest endurance car race in the world.

As part of its reading circle, the Italian Cultural Institute of Stuttgart is organizing an event for 11 November to discuss together the saga penned by Stefania Auci, whose second novel ‘L’inverno dei leoni’ (The Winter of Lions) has recently been published.

The meeting will be moderated in Italian and German by Marina D’Angelo and Magda Schrade.
