On the occasion of the International Day of Dance and as part of the activities organised around the exhibition Tracce/Huellas | Arte italiana. Opere dalla galleria Giorgio Persano 1970 – 2021 (Traces/Huellas / Italian Art: Works from the Giorgio Persano Gallery 1970 – 2021), the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid will present the show ‘CUTE’ by the Matroos DanceTheatre Company.
Presented at the 2015 Rome Fringe Festival where it was nominated for Best Director and won the Special Off Award, CUTE is a living painting, a tale of images and metaphors linked to the sensations and experiences of the surface of the skin, the boundary between the inner world and outer reality. On the fabric of an enormous canvas the interior movements appear, the folds of the skin, wounds like furrows, narrating the transformations, separations and memories, visions necessary for the recurring change of skin. The scenography takes cues from Arte Povera artists in the use of recycled materials assembled according to pictorial inspiration. The dance moves in communication with the fabric in a continuous dialogue of stimulus and response to the music and sounds that track the events through improvisation and experimentation.
