On the occasion of Fare Cinema 2021, the Italian Cultural Institute in Hamburg organizes a screening of the documentary ‘The Sky over Kibera‘ by director Marco Martinelli.

The docu-film is the story of ‘bringing to life’ the Divine Comedy in Kibera, a huge slum in Nairobi, where the director held a theatre workshop with 150 children and teenagers, re-imagining Dante’s masterpiece in English and Swahili.

The attentive gaze is that of an artist who, together with Ermanna Montanari, has worked on the Divine Comedy for a long time, who is thus able to highlight its universal nature successfully.

During the panel discussion, the director will talk with the director of the Bremer Shakespeare Company, Reante Heitmann, and with actor Michael Meyer (BSC). Among the topics of discussion, besides ‘The Sky over Kibera’ project, will be the numerous ongoing collaborations with the Bremen theatre.

The conversations will be held in Italian and German with simultaneous translation and will be moderated by the theatre journalist Irina Wolf.

As for the screening, the documentary will be available to the public on 20 and 21 June, with English subtitles.

The event is free of charge and booking is required.
