Conferences and lectio magistralis dedicated to Dante Alighieri and the Commedia, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of his death.

On the occasion of the XXI Week of Italian Language in the World, ‘Dante, l’italiano’, the Italian Cultural Institute of Haifa present ‘Inferno V‘, an innovative exhibition digital project produced by MTM for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Among the scheduled events, there will be also a series of conferences and lectio magistralis dedicated to Dante and the Commedia:

  • 18 October.The image of Florence in the works of Dante and the image of Dante in 14th century Florence‘, by Irina Chernetsky, researcher of Renaissance visual arts and lecturer at the Department of Art History of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Haifa and at the Bar-Ilan University. The conference can be followed on the Institute’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
  • 19 October.Dante and the Seven deadly sins‘, a lecture online (Zoom platform) by Tal Lanir, associate curator at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. This lecture will discuss the evolution of the iconography of the deadly sins in medieval art and how Dante’s writings changed the way, they were represented.
  • 20 October.Dante in hebrew‘,  a lecture by Shirley Finzi Loew, literary translator from Italian to Hebrew. The conference can be followed on the Institute’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
  • 21 October.Dante, Francesco and the Holy Land‘, online lectio magistralis by Roberto Deidier, full professor of Italian literature at the University of Palermo.
  • 25 October.Illustrations by Sandro Botticelli for Dante’s Divine Comedy‘, lecture by Irina Chernetsky, researcher of Renaissance visual arts and lecturer at the Department of Art History of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Haifa and at the Bar-Ilan University. The conference can be followed on the Institute’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
