On the occasion of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne has organized a series of video-conferences.
The week starts on 18 October with ‘Amore e ragione nella Vita nuova‘ (Love and reason in the Vita Nuova), a lecture given by the philologist Roberto Rea which intends to show how Dante, in the autobiographical account of the ‘Vita Nuova‘, places the conquest of a love supported by the constancy of reason at the foundation of his path of interior renewal.
It continues on 19 October with a second meeting entitled ‘L’invenzione dell’interiorità: il lessico dello stilnovo‘ (The invention of interiority: the lexicon of the Stil Novo), focused on the renewal of poetry in the vernacular by Guido Cavalcanti and Dante through the internalisation of lyrical discourse.
Finally, on 22 October the writer and literary critic Bianca Garavelli will hold a conference on the female figures in Dante’s masterpiece entitled ‘Il volto femminile della Commedia‘ (The female face of the Comedy). Dante’s masterpiece introduces us to female figures whose intensity leaves a mark. Among these women, some anticipate sadly topical issues such as feminicide and gender-based violence: Francesca da Rimini, Pia da Siena, Piccarda Donati.
