Commedia en Cápsulas

The Italian Cultural Institute of Santiago presents a wide range of events on the occasion of the XXI Week of Italian Language in the World.

Starting from October 15, the Institute will host the exhibition ‘Inferno 5’, an augmented reality journey conceived and promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and produced by MTM Reality. Following the exhibition tour in the halls of the institute, visitors can explore Canto V through pictures, videos and stories (in Spanish, English and Italian) that explain the fundamental importance of Dante’s work in the history of Western literature.

From October 15 to 24 the co-production between Teatro Finis Terrae and the Italian Institute of Culture in Santiago ‘Inferno’ will be staged at Teatro Finis Terrae, in Santiago. The show is a modern adaptation of Dante’s Inferno, written by playwright Marco Antonio de la Parra, that revisits Dante’s poem bringing together visuals, sound, poetry and performance. A powerful work, as performative as it is poetic, under the stage and musical direction of Daniel Marabolí. Reservations are required.

From October 18 to 24, the Institute has organized two online appointments to promote the Italian language. During the event ‘Dante’s readings in Chile’ personalities from the world of entertainment, institutions and the Chilean cultural universe read some of the most famous tercets from Dante’s Comedy. ‘La Commedia en cápsulas’ consists, on the other hand, in a journey through the most famous and significant characters of the Divine Comedy (Paolo and Francesca, Ugolino, Ulysses, Virgil to name a few) with an exceptional guide, Professor Romulo Hidalgoin, leading expert in Medieval Literature.

On Saturday 23 October, the Week of Italian Language closes with a workshop dedicated to teachers of Italian as a foreign language in Chile. Organized in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Chile and the Asociación Cultural Italiana and with the participation of Divulgazione Lingua Italiana (DILIT), the day opens with a talk by Professor Fabio Rosa on the relevance of Dante and the reading of his works in Italian schools in Chile. This will be followed by the presentation of the multimedia project ‘Dante nostro contemporaneo’ by the Vittorio Montiglio Italian School. The day ends with a workshop ran by Divulgazione Lingua Italiana trainers.
