Italian schools abroad are also taking part in this competition dedicated to the development of critical thinking.
Philosophy Olympiad
The Philosophy Olympiad is now in its 29th edition. It is promoted by the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Società Filosofica Italiana (SFI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Regional School Offices and the Philolympia Social Promotion Association, with the support of the ‘Antonio Genovesi’ Classical Lyceum in Naples.
The Philosophy Olympiad are aimed at students in the last three years of upper secondary school, in order to promote the educational potential of philosophy and encouraging the development of critical thinking in future citizens.
The competition consists of the submission of philosophical essays which engage in the various problems, discussions and the contextualization of the proposed theme, while also making reference to current events. The competitions are divided into two categories: Section A, in Italian, and Section B, in a foreign language, which, as required by the regulations, must be different from that of the country in which the student lives. As in the previous edition, students from Italian schools abroad are able to participate in both sections.
Registrations can be made by January 31, 2022, through the dedicated portal. The competitions will be divided into 3 phases: an internal school competition, which will take place by February 19, 2022, in person or online, according to the COVID-19 regulations of the country of origin; a regional competition, to be held online on March, 21, 2022, and a final competition, to be held in Rome between April 6 and 8, 2022, or online on April 7, 2022, in the event that it is not possible to meet in person.
