The certification of European languages, according to the principles of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and the European Council of Ministers, is part of the European Language Portfolio and aims to develop learner competence, fostering communication, mobility and intercultural relations. In particular, language certification serves as documentation, according to the levels of competence foreseen by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Within the framework of the certification of Italian as a foreign language, the association Certificazione Lingua Italiana di Qualità (CLIQ) was created, which brings together the four certification bodies: the Dante Alighieri Society, the University for Foreigners of Perugia, the University for Foreigners of Siena and Roma Tre University.
The purpose of the association is to promote a culture of certification assessment for Italian as L2 and to ensure a quality system for the certification of language skills, in line with the scientific standards set by the Council of Europe in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
