‘Fumetti nei Musei‘ (Comics in Museums) is an initiative launched in 2018 by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism to communicate the wealth of Italian cultural heritage to young people.
On the occasion of the XX Week of the Italian language in the World, the 51 stories drawn by some of the best Italian comic books artists, illustrating the art collections of 51 state museums and archaeological parks, begin a world tour on 19 October thanks to the collaboration with Italian Cultural Institutes, Italian schools abroad, Embassies and Consular Offices.
The Series
The special edition of the entire series travels the world with 1,150 boxes, for a total of over 66 thousand volumes, distributed in more than 200 venues of the foreign network for the international promotion of Italian culture, giving them precious educational material illustrating Italian museums through the creativity and original stories of cartoonists.
‘I mestieri del fumetto‘
The series of short documentaries presents fourteen interviews in seven episodes, directed by Fulvio Risuleo, discussing the dialogue with the Italian language of the different professional figures in the world of the comic strip. Artists, editors, cartoonists, colorists, translators, even those who deal with lettering, discuss the relation of their profession with the Italian language. The video are available in Italian. Webinars
Five dialogues between Directors of Italian Cultural Institutes, Directors of Italian Museums and cartoonists discuss the initiative and explore the creative scene in cities such as Madrid, Abu Dhabi, New York, Tokyo and Sao Paulo. The video are available in Italian. Scroll through to see them all.
Exhibition and virtual tour
The programme is enriched by the exhibition at the Sanctuary of Ercole Vincitore at Villa d’Este in Tivoli, which, until spring 2021, will display the 51 comics and some of the original boards kept at the Fondo Fumetti (Comics Fund) of the Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica (National Institute for Graphic Design).
The exhibition in a special edition will be on tour abroad starting from autumn 2021.
