Italian Design Day is a project supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the integrated international promotion of the excellence and peculiarities of Italian design. It has been an annual event since 2017 in many cities of the world thanks to the efforts of Embassies, Consular Offices and Italian Cultural Institutes, within the scope of the broader promotional strategy Vivere ALL’italiana.

The “ambassadors” of Italian design – architects, designers, academics, entrepreneurs, critics, communicators – take part every year in conferences, promotional events, exhibitions and meetings to promote Italian industrial design, one of the distinguishing sectors of Italian production and a fundamental component of our exports.

Italian Design Day is the result of team work involving all public and private actors representing quality Italian design, including the business world and the education sector.

The first edition, in 2017, engaged about 20,000 sector operators in promoting abroad both established Italian designers and young and emerging talent.

The 2018 edition, devoted to the relationship between design and sustainability – the latter considered from an economic, social and environmental point of view – took place on 1 March in 100 cities around the world and involved as many personalities in the industry who have represented Italian excellence in the world.

In 2019, Italian design in the world was celebrated on 20 March with the well-established formula of 100 ‘Made in Italy’ ambassadors in 100 cities worldwide.
