‘Armenian Dragon Stones Archaeological Project’.

The project, active since 2012 and led by Prof. Alessandra Gilibert, is the first field study of “dragon stones”, exceptional steles featuring animal figures from the 5th millennium BC, located in the high altitude pastures of the mountains of Anatolia and the Southern Caucasus. The research starts with the excavation of the Karmir Sar site on Mount Aragaz (Armenia), to investigate the ritual and cultic use of the mountain landscape in prehistoric times. The project is an international collaboration between Venice, Yerevan and Berlin.
