Opened in 1933, the “Arturo dell’Oro” Italian School fulfils long-standing aspirations: as early as the end of the 1800s, some initiatives had already been implemented to create an Italian education system to bridge the physical and spiritual distance from the motherland. The school was named after Arturo dell’Oro, in homage to the immense spirit of sacrifice of a young Italian-Chilean volunteer who died in a combat operation in the sky over Belluno during the First World War. The local community’s extraordinary response to the initiative to create the Italian school provided the impetus to expand the premises over the decades, providing the necessary facilities to meet the needs of the students and creating a secondary site in Viña del Mar. In 2008, it was recognized as a state-authorized private school.
