The “Casa d’Italia” Italian State School includes the Nursery School and the Primary School. In June 2009, these schools were officially recognized by the Bildungsdirektion (Ministry of Education) of the Canton of Zurich. Both of them offer a bilingual and bicultural Italian-German educational pathway structured vertically to harmonise the different age groups, starting from 3 years and going through to the end of primary school.
Bilingual and bicultural teaching is translated into educational and organizational methods that combine the principles of the Italian “National Curriculum Guidelines” with the objectives of the Zurich “Lehrplan 21”. This means pupils can make the transition to the Zurich or metropolitan school system with full possession of the key skills required. The curriculum was agreed between the Italian and Swiss authorities, ensuring the fulfilment of the requirements of compulsory education for both countries and the issue of academic qualifications valid in Switzerland and in all European Union Member States.
