The Italian-Egyptian Centre for Restoration and Archaeology (CIERA) has been operating since 1979 as an NGO branch of the Rome CFPR (Professional Training Centre for Restoration) in Egypt, as a worksite school for the recovery of the vast Mevlevi architectural complex in Cairo. The area covers around 10,000 m2 and holds, in an extraordinary stratification of eras and styles, archaeological and historical-architectural evidence dating from the 7th to the 19th centuries. The project is currently led by Dr Giuseppe Fanfoni.
