‘GaRKAP: Ganja Region Kurgan Archaeological Project’.
The GaRKAP, operational since 2018 and led by Prof. Nicola Laneri, is a joint Italian-Azerbaijani archaeological project between the Centre for Ancient Mediterranean and Near Easter Studies (CAMNES) and the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The project objective is to investigate the funerary and settlement tradition in the Southern Caucasus between the 4th and 1st millennia BC through the excavation, prospecting and study of the large circular burial mounds (i.e. the kurgans ) typical of the region and, in 2020, also a settlement.
