Some current Indonesian boatbuilding processes and techniques have ancient origins and can be considered peculiar to the maritime culture of South-East Asia. However, these practices are disappearing to respond to the more profitable market demand. The project, active since 2019 and led by Prof. Chiara Zazzaro, seeks to provide an accurate documentation of this important aspect of Indonesian cultural identity, considering at once the archaeological, ethnographic and linguistic evidence.
