The Italian Cultural Institute of Mumbai – Section of the IIC of New Delhi – is part of the worldwide network of 81 Italian Cultural Institutes (IICs) established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) with the aim of promoting Italian culture and language abroad. Founded in 2013, the Mumbai Institute is one of two existing institutions in India (in addition to New Delhi).
The Italian Cultural Institutes’ primary purpose is to promote the Italian language and culture in the countries where they are based, through the organization of cultural events (concerts, exhibitions, conferences, etc.) and by providing courses in Italian language and culture.
To broaden their audience and respond to thedifferent interests of the local social fabric, the Institutes often create their own cultural programmes in collaboration with academic institutions and cultural organizations in the area in which they operate.
