Founded in 1961, the Italian Cultural Institute of New York is an official branch of the Italian government dedicated to promoting Italian culture in the United States by organizing exhibitions and events and offering cultural services.
Under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the advisory committee and its staff, the Italian Cultural Institute of New York fulfils this commitment by cultivating cultural exchange between Italy and the United States in different areas, ranging from arts to humanities and science.
The mission of the Italian Cultural Institute of New York is to work continuously to ensure that the different audiences of New York can understand and benefit from the different expressions of Italian culture.
The initiatives undertaken by the Italian Cultural Institute in New York include: developing academic exchanges; organizing and supporting exhibitions and festivals; incentives towards the publication of Italian books; promoting the study of the Italian language; and collaborating with local institutions in planning events involving music, dance, film, theatre, architecture, literature, etc.
